Welcome to Bevis of Hampton

Welcome to Bevis of Hampton, Local Hero, the site dedicated to one of the most interesting, exciting, and longest, of the 14th century English Romances.

Bevis is known by many different spellings of his name, and in many different languages. So in a sense he may be 'local' to many people far beyond Southampton, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. Here in the place to which he is always said to belong his significance is evident in place names such as Bevois Valley, but he is rarely celebrated in any significant way. It is hoped that this blog will redress that.
